Prior to any work starting, Moore County Schools set up a temporary campus of modular buildings at a nearby location which served as the Pinehurst Elementary kindergarten thru 5th grade students until the beginning of the 2021 school year. Work started with demo of the existing campus facilities that had served locals since 1940. Thomas has completed construction and has restored the original school’s cupola that is permanently displayed near the new entrance.
The new structure consists of two stories with a capacity for 800 students. With more than 119,000 SF, the building is a slab on grade, masonry load-bearing structure with a cavity wall construction and brick veneer exterior walls. In addition to classrooms, work spaces, and administrative areas, the school contains a commercial-grade kitchen, cafeteria, and gymnasium to serve the students.
