At Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, Thomas Construction Group delivered a transformative addition to one of North Carolina’s most historic private clubs with the construction of the new 21,950-square-foot Family Activity Center. Founded in 1899, the Club continues to invest in amenities that support connection, wellness, and multi-generational engagement—while honoring its legacy.
The project involved partial demolition of the existing pool and tennis facility and full demolition of a tennis storage building to make way for a modern, two-story structure clad in brick and cedar shake. Designed as a central hub for recreation and gathering, the first floor features a display kitchen and bar, casual indoor dining, outdoor dining with walk-up service, a full commercial kitchen, youth activity and childcare rooms, multipurpose spaces, updated pool locker rooms, and a new tennis Pro Shop.
The open-plan second floor is dedicated to wellness and fitness, housing a state-of-the-art fitness center with dedicated spaces for spin, Pilates, and aerobics, along with additional locker rooms, steam rooms, treatment spaces, and offices. Exterior balconies provide elevated views overlooking the pool and tennis courts, reinforcing the connection between indoor amenities and outdoor activity.
Construction required precise coordination to maintain existing pool fencing, gates, and grounding systems while ensuring uninterrupted power to the tennis court lighting—allowing club operations to continue seamlessly throughout the build. The completed Family Activity Center reflects Cape Fear Country Club’s long-term vision for enhanced recreational amenities and delivers a dynamic, thoughtfully integrated space for members of all ages.
