Thomas Construction Group was honored to serve as Construction Manager for the rebuilding of the YMCA on Market Street in Wilmington, NC, after the original facility was heavily damaged by fire in 2015. As a vital community resource, the YMCA serves thousands of members of all ages and abilities, making its restoration and expansion a project of special significance.
The new facility not only replaced what was lost but also greatly expanded community offerings. Features include spacious exercise areas, a full aquatics center, a kids’ adventure zone, youth program spaces, a teaching kitchen, gathering areas, new administration offices, and an improved full-size gymnasium. Despite the scale of construction, the indoor pool remained operational throughout.
Designed by Bowman Murray Hemingway Architects, the light-filled, state-of-the-art facility has helped the YMCA grow its membership and expand programs ranging from childcare to health and wellness initiatives like diabetes prevention—strengthening its role as a cornerstone of the Wilmington community.
