NEW HANOVER COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER REDEVELOPMENT & REVITALIZATION
The existing government facility was originally constructed as a single-story retail shopping center in the late 1980’s, and later purchased and renovated by New Hanover County in 2002. Twenty years later, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved a development agreement to revitalize the existing space by entering into a public-private partnership to accommodate a newly designed facility for county offices, mixed-use commercial and residential, and green space.
When complete, the project will consist of approx. 130,000 SF of new construction, comprised of new office space, 9-1-1 Center and an expanded Emergency Operations Center (EOC) . The office portion is a four-story structure containing a public lobby with a customer service area, large meeting and training rooms, employee health center, and office space for County departments. The 9-1-1 and EOC portion will consist of a two-story building. Sitework includes new parking, demolition of the existing building, and a park for community gatherings.
