Construction of the new Pinehurst Elementary School began early November 2019 and is on track for a May 2021 completion.

Prior to any work starting, Moore County Schools set up a temporary campus of modular buildings at a nearby location which will serve the Pinehurst Elementary kindergarten thru 5th grade students until the beginning of the 2021 school year. Work started with demo of the existing campus facilities that had served locals since 1940. The project team has restored the original school’s cupola that will be permanently displayed near the new entrance.

When complete, the new structure will consist of two stories with a capacity for 800 students. With more than 119,000 SF, the building will be a slab on grade, masonry load-bearing structure with a cavity wall construction and brick veneer exterior walls. In addition to classrooms, work spaces, and administrative areas, the school will have a commercial-grade kitchen, cafeteria, and gymnasium to serve the students.
