Our Largest Project to Date – WYE Junction Apartments

As we celebrate this year with 20 Stories for 20 Years, we’re reflecting on the evolution of Thomas Construction Group–from our first ground-up project in Wilmington to our largest project to date, WYE Junction Apartments in Durham, NC.

Over the past 20 years, we’ve grown into a trusted partner across the Carolinas and beyond, with a portfolio that spans healthcare, senior living, commercial, multi-family, and mixed-use developments.

One of the most visible signs of that growth is WYE Junction Apartments, a 450,000-square-foot mixed-use project located in downtown Durham. Situated along Washington Street, across from the Historic Durham Athletic Park, WYE Junction will bring 310 apartment units, more than 400 parking spaces in a precast deck, and ground-level retail that contributes to the area’s walkability and local economy.

The development includes a six-story, 233-unit wrap-style building and an adjacent five-story building with 77 units. A signature open-air pedestrian bridge connects the two structures. Together, they sit atop a shared podium and will feature a pool, clubhouse, retail plaza, and improved streetscapes. Construction is well underway, with the buildings now a prominent feature of the Bull City skyline.

This project reflects the type of long-term partnerships and steady progress that define our work. Alongside Ram Realty Advisors and Cline Design Associates, WYE Junction is the result of consistent growth, trusted relationships, and a focus on delivering quality outcomes.

From 38,000 square feet to 450,000, we’re still guided by the same principle that launched Thomas: when you focus on quality and people, you build more than just buildings.
